The subframe is not a complete frame, but a bracket supporting the front and rear axles and suspension, so that the axles and suspension are connected with the "front frame" through it, which is traditionally called "subframe". The function of subframe is to block vibration and noise and reduce its direct entry into the carriage, so it mostly appears in luxury cars and off-road vehicles, and some cars are also equipped with subframe for the engine. The suspension of the traditional load-bearing body without subframe is directly connected with the body steel plate. Therefore, the suspension rocker arm mechanisms of the front and rear axles are loose parts, not assemblies. After the birth of the subframe, the front and rear suspension can be assembled on the subframe to form an axle assembly, and then the assembly can be installed on the vehicle body together. The automobile engine is not directly and rigidly connected with the vehicle body. Instead, it is connected to the body through suspension. Suspension is the rubber cushion at the connection between engine and body that we can often see. With the development of technology, there are more and more types of mounts, and high-end vehicles mostly use hydraulic mounts. The function of the suspension is to isolate the vibration of the engine. In other words, under the action of the suspension, the engine vibration can be transmitted to the cockpit as little as possible. Because the engine has different vibration characteristics in each speed range, a good mounting mechanism can effectively shield the vibration in each speed range. This is why we can't feel too much engine vibration when driving some high-end cars with good matching, no matter whether the engine is at 2000 rpm or 5000 rpm. The connection point between the subframe and the body is just like the engine mount. Usually, an axle assembly needs to be connected with the body by four mounting points, which can not only ensure its connection stiffness, but also have a good vibration isolation effect. This suspension assembly with subframe can reduce the transmission of vibration in five levels. The first level of vibration is absorbed by the soft rubber deformation of the tire table. This level of deformation can absorb a large number of high-frequency vibration. The second level is the overall deformation of the tire to absorb vibration. This level mainly absorbs the road vibration slightly higher than the first level, such as the vibration caused by stones. The third stage is to isolate the vibration of the rubber bushing in each connection point of the suspension rocker arm. This link is mainly to reduce the assembly impact of the suspension system. The fourth stage is the up and down movement of the suspension system, which mainly absorbs long wave vibration, that is, the vibration caused by crossing the ditch and sill. Level 5 is the absorption of vibration by the subframe mount, which mainly absorbs the vibration that is not completely shielded in the first 4 levels.
